Beyond diamonds: a different set of rules.

Diamonds are our focus — but we also work with colored gemstones, which follow their own standards entirely. Different labs grade them. Different regions define their value. Here's what actually changes.

Certification works differently.

GIA and IGI — the labs behind every diamond we sell — are diamond specialists first. They do issue basic colored-stone reports, but the trade doesn't lean on them for the thing that matters most with gemstones: confirming where a stone came from and whether it's been treated.

For that, the industry trusts a different set of labs entirely — ones built specifically around colored stones.

Graded almost entirely on the 4Cs. GIA and IGI are the accepted standard worldwide, full stop.

Gemstones

Graded on color, treatment, and often origin. SSEF and Gübelin (Switzerland), GRS, and AGL (US) specialize in exactly that — and carry real weight the diamond labs don't for this category.

Origin changes the value.

With diamonds, where a stone was cut matters more to us than where it was mined — it's why we talk about India's cutting hubs. With colored gemstones, it's the opposite: where the rough stone actually came from can change its value dramatically, even between two stones that look identical.

  • Sapphire Most valued from Kashmir and Sri Lanka (Ceylon), with Madagascar and Montana as common alternatives.
  • Ruby Historically centered on Myanmar (Burma), with Mozambique now a major modern source.
  • Emerald Colombia sets the benchmark, with Zambia and Brazil as widely respected alternatives.
